In 2014 The British Royal Mint launches a new series of Lunar coins that lend a unique British angle to an ancient tradition. These coins are the perfect way to continue the Lunar New Year gifting tradition that brings good fortune to the recipient, or to begin a beautiful new collection. They are a first for The Royal Mint – the first legal tender Lunar coins struck for the United Kingdom – and they begin a wonderful new series: the Shengxiào Collection, named in honor of the Chinese zodiac.
Each coin contains one ounce .999 fine silver and has a beautiful "proof-like" finish. Single coins will be provided in a clear protective safety-flip (PVC free) while orders for 20 coins will come in their original Royal Mint sealed tube. Mintage is limited to only 300,000 coins world-wide! Compare this tiny mintage to the typical silver eagle annual mintage of 20 to 30 million coins.
The 2014 Lunar "Year of the Horse" Silver Bullion Coin is the first year of issue for the planned 12-coin lunar series (2014-2025). As a "first-year-of-issue" coin release, this coin may become the "key" to the entire series (which is typical of first-year-of-issue bullion coins).
